Independent AI rankings, built for South Africa.
Ranker exists for one reason: South African businesses are being sold AI by hype, and there is almost nobody scoring it honestly for local conditions. Search "best AI tools" and you get a list written for San Francisco, priced in dollars, blind to POPIA, and built on the assumption that everyone has fibre and nobody runs their business on WhatsApp. None of that is true here.
What we do
We score AI tools and the companies that build AI, from 0 to 10, against a fixed set of criteria. The same scorecard is applied to everything, and the score decides the ranking. We test for the things a South African business actually cares about:
- Rand pricing and local billing, not a dollar figure that swings with the exchange rate.
- POPIA-aware data handling, because where your customer data goes matters.
- Local support and real-world fit, including a market that lives on WhatsApp and a grid that does not always stay on.
- Honest value, judged on what the thing delivers, not how loud its marketing is.
Scored, never sponsored
This is the whole promise. Ranker takes no payment for placement or rank. A vendor cannot buy a better position, and there are no "sponsored" slots dressed up as verdicts. When we name a top pick, it is because it scored highest, full stop. The methodology is public so you can check our working.

Every ranking opens with a one-line verdict and a clear number-one pick, then shows the full scorecard with every contender and exactly why it placed where it did, followed by the criteria we judged on.
